A quotation you like…

“It only hurts up to a point and then it doesn’t get any worse”

Why do you run?

Where do I start? The obvious stress release of being out on a long run and either solving all of your problems or simply not think about a thing for hours. The competition, you may not be as fast but fast doesn’t always win. And to stay in shape, I like to eat too much not to.

Describe your best marathon memory.

Crossing the finish line of my first marathon (Chicago ‘08), it is hard to describe that moment. All that work and time and pain comes over you all at once.

Why do you pace?

I love helping people reach their goals. I know how hard everyone has worked just to get to the start line. To be a part of a runners first, last, or best marathons is really an honor. I also love showing runners that no matter the pace or distance you run we can all learn from each other.

Tell us your best pacing experience.

The Fox Valley marathon in 2011 there was a young lady who was dropping off the group at mile 19. I ran back and talked to her for a few seconds convinced her to get back in with the group. She fell off the pace at about mile 21 but came up to me at the finish line and told me she  PR’d by over 10 minutes and could not have done it without those few words.

Why should someone run in your pace group?

FUN! I like to think of myself as a pretty fun guy. I can usually take your mind off of the run even just for a few seconds to get you through some tough times.

Any tips for runners about to join your group?

I am really bad with names so don’t be upset if I have an awesome new nickname for you by the end of the race.

Anything else you’d like to share?

I love running!

What philanthropic activities do you have?

I am active in my church and try to support my ultra running peeps as much as possible.
