Why do you run?

To live longer for my wife, children and grandchildren.  To relieve stress.  To give back to others.

Describe your best marathon memory.

I will never forget crossing the line at 3:18 at the 2005 Fargo Marathon.  I had trained hard to qualify for Boston, but I was still not 100% sure I could do it.

Why do you pace?

To give back to the running community.   There have been many friends, mentors and supporters through my nine years of running.  Now it is time I give back.

Tell us your best pacing experience.

Fargo 2012. “ I had a great, enthusiastic, appreciative group from start to finish.  We shared great running stories with each other and I was able to bring in a young runner who was ready to throw away his goal at mile 22.  I was able to keep him motivated through the remaining miles and he got another gear with a half mile to go, leaving me behind.  What a great feeling! “

Why should someone run in your pace group?

To enjoy the camaraderie, good vibes and positive atmosphere in a group setting.  We are all in this together!

Any tips for runners about to join your group?

Please be realistic about your goal pace, do not choose a group you can’t keep up with. Rather, be conservative about your estimated time and if you are having a good day, you can always speed ahead!!

Anything else you’d like to share?

If you are on the fence about a pace group, try it once, you will love it and want to join again in the future!!
