Personal goals

Never to pass up on an adventure

A quotation you like…

This speaks to many aspects of my life:

“Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass, it’s about learning to dance in the rain”- Vivian Greene

Why do you run?

To challenge myself, to think through problems, to get outside to enjoy the world beyond the walls. Also, I have met so many good, inspiring people through running.

Describe your best marathon memory.

In the last two miles I ran into a friend who was walking because she was injured.  I decided to walk in with her.  During that walk, she shared with me a personal story that had us both crying as we crossed the finish line. I may not have PR’d that day but that experience meant more to me than a PR.

Why do you pace?

There is something about helping someone else achieve their pace goal that makes me feel good.  It’s partly selfish I guess. I especially like pacing new or slower runners because that was once me.

Tell us your best pacing experience.

I informally paced some ladies who run with my group. Two had returned to running after a few years’ hiatus, three had never completed a half marathon before. They ran different paces so I ran between the groups to keep them motivated and then stood at the finish line until everyone made it across. Awesome!

Why should someone run in your pace group?

If your favorite race shirt quote is “If found on ground, please drag across the finish line,”  then run with me because I will get you across that finish line one way or another!

Any tips for runners about to join your group?

Please bring your own fluids and fuel, and a fun attitude.  Fluids because sometimes you may need something between water stops, fuel because it is a long race and you need fuel to finish strong, and a fun attitude to get us through because we never know what challenges we may face along the way to the end.

Anything else you’d like to share?

I live in Florida but I hail from Texas, so just be forewarned.  We Texans are a proud bunch.

What philanthropic activities do you have?

Research for the cure and prevention of breast cancer, and helping kids in foster care
