Why do you run?

I run to experience life to its fullest.

Describe your best marathon memory.

Meeting Frank Shorter at the Chicago Marathon expo and having him sign my marathon poster “Here’s to sub 3:00”, then running my PR of 2:57:45 the next day.

Why do you pace?

Hopefully I am helping someone to meet their goals, enjoy their race and become a better runner.

Tell us your best pacing experience.

I paced a friend for the last 40 miles of the Western States 100.  It was very satisfying helping him reach his goal.  The mile 62 checkpoint is in the small town of Foresthill, CA.  As we were leaving the checkpoint 2 drunk woman exiting a bar started harassing my runner and I was able to fend them off while my runner continued on.

Why should someone run in your pace group?

I’ve been running since 7th grade.  I will do my best to engage you, encourage you and help you reach your goal.

Any tips for runners about to join your group?

Yes, I do have the most unorthodox inefficient stride you have ever seen, but it works for me.  I definitely won’t judge you or your running.  We are all runners for different reasons.  Be yourself and enjoy your race no matter what others say or do.

Anything else you’d like to share?

Races don’t run themselves.  There is always a group of dedicated organizers and wonderful volunteers. Consider volunteering at a race sometime.  It is very rewarding and a great way to give back to the running community.

What philanthropic activities do you have?

I’ve done the MS 150 bike tour 5 of 6 times.  Now I mainly sponsor friends anytime I see someone post a fundraiser on Facebook.
