Why do you run?

For relaxation and cross training for mountain biking and besides... I just love it!!

Why do you pace?

I pace as a way to give back.  I love to help people get to their personal running goals.  Over the years, with all the adventure races I have completed, I always felt a tremendous sense of personal pride in reaching my racing goals or any goals for that matter; but as time went on, I wanted to help others to reach their personal racing goals.  This is that avenue - pacing.  When a racer crosses the finish line either at their goal or having exceeded their goal - their sense of great accomplish is palpable.  That is my reason - the satisfaction that I have helped someone reach their own racing goals or exceeded them.

Tell us your best pacing experience.

I was helping on a 1/2 marathon here in Pgh Pa when I had a runner tell me they could not continue since they had hit their wall.  To take their mind off of what they were doing, I began to sing some John Prine songs to take their mind off of their discomfort.  Once I was complete a song, someone else began to sing a song they knew.  This continued for some time which not only helped the person who was flagging, but entertained the rest of the group.  That person did make it to the finish with us and was overwhelmed.  That for me was such a great experience, humbling since it was the collective group that took up the torch to get everyone to the finish.  What a great race that was!!

Why should someone run in your pace group?

I am steady and ready to help anyone cross the finish line.  But most importantly, you will be entertained.  :)
