A quotation you like…

You can buy the right shoes, the best shorts, and even grab some socks that wick away your sweat. But heart, the only thing you must have to finish a race, can't be bought. That comes from within, and without it, no one has ever finished a marathon.

~~Jeff Galloway

Why do you run?

15 years ago I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes/kidney disease and was told to change my lifestyle. I came home and started to run to clear my head, and 15 years later I’m still running. I run for my health.

Describe your best marathon memory.

My best marathon memory always consist of meeting new runners and helping to get them to the finish line, some for the first time and some just needed my help to get thru the last mile.

Why do you pace?

I love to help runners, old and new to get their goal, whatever it is.  I love to make new friends and actually make a difference in someone’s life.

Tell us your best pacing experience.

I convinced and paced my friend for her first 50k ultra this year. She’s never ran more than 14 miles in her life. 9 hours and 15 minutes and 31 miles later, she became a marathoner and an ultra-marathoner. Not only that she placed 4TH in her AG. And I placed 5th at the Run Til You’re Boared 50k Ultra this year.

Why should someone run in your pace group?

To keep a pace goal and not worry about not making it. And most importantly they get a chance to run with Super-Mel!!!

Any tips for runners about to join your group?

It’s gonna be lots of fun so get ready to have a good time. Don’t worry about your pace, I won’t either. Let’s just enjoy the race and stay injury free while doing it.

Anything else you’d like to share?

Enjoy the moment, it’s your race. Let me worry about the pace.

What philanthropic activities do you have?

I am a Freemason so I do a lot of philanthropic work on my free time with the community and the Shrine Hospital fundraising events.
