Why do you run?

To meet people and get to know them well. To stay fit.

Describe your best marathon memory.

At the Lake Placid Ironman triathlon in 2015, I caught one of my faster friends on the marathon portion of the race, who had serious stomach issues. It was at the 14-mile mark, and they were thinking of dropping out of the race. I ran with them and was able, through encouragement and coaching to get them to the finish line. That’s when I knew I wanted to be a pacer.

Why do you pace?

I love to meet people with goals in life. I enjoy encouraging them to reach their goals, and of course, I love to run.

Tell us your best pacing experience.

The first one in Lake Placid, described above.

Why should someone run in your pace group?

I will keep you smiling and motivated with a lot of clean funny jokes. Some are corny (Dad jokes). Most are short.

Any tips for runners about to join your group?

Don’t cheat on your training program. Then you can trust your training to get you to the finish line with a smile on your face.

Anything else you’d like to share?

I am originally from England. I moved to Naples Florida in 1983 and have lived there ever since. I have a wife of 45 years and two sons (who also live in Naples,) and three grandchildren who live next door with my oldest son and his wife. I became a US citizen in 2008.

What philanthropic activities do you have?

I volunteer with my running club (Gulf Coast Runners), and financially support my church and many local Christian charities.
